TERRACOTTA PIGEONS
Heavy and melodic, Terracotta Pigeons are a hard rock/alternative act riding the cyclonic winds out of Darwin, NT. With songs crafted to sit on the edge where a metal vibe meets commercial appeal, stick Faith No More arms on a Sound Garden torso with a Muse head and you can start to imagine the creature created by multi-instrumentalist Steven Smith.
Drumming for rock outfit Roy Mackonkey, Smith cut his teeth playing club and festival dates for over a decade, opening for and sharing the bill with acts such as Rollins Band, The Living End, Grinspoon, You Am I and Spider Bait to name but a few.
Terracotta Pigeons is now the vessel and Smith is at the helm flexing his creative muscles by performing all instruments and production tasks at his studio - Muscle Mother Ship. From the studio the songs make their way to the live stage where Smith leads a three-piece outfit as a singing drummer.
Debuting in Canada with two showcase performances in 2008, Terracotta Pigeons have since followed up with shows in Australia opening for premier artists including Wolfmother, Butterfly effect, Calling all cars, Karnivool, Jimmy Barnes, The Screaming Jets and The Presets. As well as sharing the stage with Australian heavyweights Powderfinger, Mammal, Gyroscope and The Hilltop Hoods.
The debut album EVER-FOREVER-NEVER was officially launched in March 2010 with shows in Darwin, Adelaide, and Brisbane kicking off promotion of this independent release before the group returned to Canada in June, to showcase at Toronto's NXNE music festival.
As 2011 draws to a close so to does the recording of a new Terracotta Pigeons album due for release in March 2012. A national tour in April will see the Pigeons rumbling through SA, VIC, NSW, ACT and QLD.
